On November 2, Assistant Professor of English, Chalet A. Jean-Baptiste, and her students, mostly Honors students, went on a field trip to the Keegan Theatre in Washington, D.C. The field trip has become part of her English 125 (Intro to Literature) course and every year students learn about literature that focuses on a particular theme. This year’s themes are nature, the environment and science fiction and fantasy vs. reality.
As part of the science fiction and fantasy vs. reality theme, the students went to see “A Woman in Black,” a play about a lawyer who engages a skeptical young actor to help him tell his terrifying story, and exorcise the fear that grips his soul. As the two men reach further into the lawyer’s darkest memories, the borders between make believe and reality begin to blur and the flesh begins to creep. The students enjoyed the experience.
