Dr. Glenn DuBois, Virginia Community College System (VCCS) chancellor, visited NOVA’s Annandale Campus last month as a part of the “2013 Strategic Planning Listening Tour.” NOVA was one of seven tour sessions held across the state.
The tour stop brought together elected officials and leaders from business, community and K-12 education sectors to discuss the region’s needs as the first step in building the next statewide strategic plan. NOVA is the institution that unites these diverse elements in support of northern Virginia’s economy.
Among those in attendance were Bobbie Kilberg, president and CEO of Northern Virginia Technology Council; Jennifer McGarey, corporate vice president and secretary of Northrup Grumman; Dr. Steven Walts, superintendent of Prince William County Public Schools; Dr. Patrick Murphy, superintendent of Arlington County Public Schools; Jim Cole, CEO of Virginia Hospital Center; and Todd Rowley, SkillSource Groups chair and NOVA Board member.
Expected to begin in 2016, the new strategic plan will focus on using measurable goals to meet the needs of the people, employers and communities that VCCS serves. A task force charged with drafting a plan will begin working in 2014. The plan will be implemented as NOVA and VCCS celebrate 50 years of service in the Commonwealth.
