The members of NOVA’s National Society of Minorities in Hospitality (NSMH), under the leadership of Professor DeQuan Smith, held an event called “The Cure for the Cancer” that raised $700 to support the Children’s Hospital Foundation in Washington, D.C. When students, faculty or staff donated, they were given the opportunity to choose a colored ribbon to represent the type of cancer they wanted to support.
The Children’s Hospital Foundation assists families while their children are visiting or staying at the hospital and fighting cancer. The foundation provides assistance with purchasing gifts and feeding the families when they cannot afford to do so.
Meredith Chapman of the Children’s Hospital Foundation expressed her appreciation. “We are so grateful for the funds that the NOVA National Society of Minorities in Hospitality students raised to support our children and families battling cancer. I stand reassured that NOVA is breeding new leaders that I am confident will perform well,” she said.
