On March 1, Dr. Rebecca Hayes’ Honors students enrolled in “History of Early Modern Britain,” took a step back in time when they traveled to the Blackfriars Playhouse in Staunton, Va. The Blackfriars Playhouse is the world’s only re-creation of Shakespeare’s indoor theater. The American Shakespeare Center’s resident acting troupe perform with the lights on and interact with the audience to re-create Renaissance conditions.
Hayes and her students participated in a wonderful educational workshop on Shakespearean verse, went on a backstage tour of the playhouse and attended a performance of “As You Like It.”
The students, who represent almost every NOVA campus, are currently studying the Tudor-Stuart era of British history in Hayes’ class. The students had a wonderful time, learning and experiencing the wonders of Shakespeare.
