Falls Church City Public Schools has named its newest school building in honor of the late Jessie Thackrey, former member and chair of the NOVA Board. Thackrey served on the Board from the mid-1970s to the early 1980s.
The Jessie Thackrey Preschool is scheduled to open its doors this fall. Thackrey, a beloved Falls Church civic leader, died last year at the age of 100.
“Jessie Thackrey was a great civic leader and enthusiastic supporter of education,” said NOVA Board Chair, Jerome Barrett. “It is only fitting that the Falls Church community would honor her by naming a school building after her, a lasting tribute to a great woman.”
In addition to serving on the NOVA Board, Thackrey served on the Falls Church City School Board.
