Alexandria Campus and City of Alexandria Job Fair

Alexandria Campus and City of Alexandria Job Fair During the month of April, over 400 Alexandria Campus students and community members prepared for and attended the Alexandria Campus 2014 Job Fair. The event was held on April 22 and hosted by Alexandria Career Counselor Crystal Young. The employment preparedness workshops kicked off on April 7 with an Interviewing Skills Workshop by Young, followed by a Resume Skills Workshop presented on April 10 by Career Counselor Edythe Richards (NOVA’s Workforce Development counselor at Arlington Employment Center) and two Interviewing and Resume Skills workshops on April 15 and 17 presented by GAP Inc. for Community Colleges.

The 2014 Job Fair was held at the Rachel M. Schlesinger Concert Hall and Arts Center with 36 participating employers/organizations including the United States Secret Service, Living Social, Acentia IT Government Contracting, Americorps and Dominion Power Company.

Alexandria Campus and City of Alexandria Job Fair Students and community members were able to meet and network with local employers and organizations to discuss paid employment, volunteer opportunities and internships. Representatives from Arlington Employment Center and Alexandria City Job Link Employment Center were also present to share community employment resources and services.

Additional thanks to Alexandria Instructional Support and Development’s Matthew Fox, Alexandria Parking Services’ Mike Delchamp, Antionne Nailon for event set-up, and Schlesinger Center staff members Linda Vitello, Stephen Shetler and Nathan Devonshyre for support in making this a successful event for the Campus and the community.

In addition to career-related workshops, career services for students at the Alexandria Campus include individual career counseling, occupational exploration resources, career assessment and interpretation, online career resources and an annual job fair in the spring.
