A launch party on May 7 at 7:00 p.m. at One More Page Books in Arlington, Va., will celebrate “Murder on the Hoof,” the newest book by Professor Kathryn O’Sullivan (MA). “Murder on the Hoof” continues the mystery series featuring Fire Chief Colleen McCabe from “Foal Play,” published last year by St. Martin’s Press/Minotaur.
“I love writing this series,” said O’Sullivan. “The characters are fun and quirky and it makes me smile when people I know think they are one of the characters in the book. Readers who enjoyed “Foal Play” will be pleased to see their favorite characters making a return in the second book.”
The story of “Murder on the Hoof” picks up a few weeks after that of “Foal Play.” The wild horses have been relocated to the sanctuary and the Outer Banks village of Corolla is occupied with the upcoming local theatre production. Colleen thinks all has returned to normal until a member of the acting troupe is found dead in the dunes during a firefighter/EMT training exercise and her best friend Sheriff Bill Dorman’s ex-fiancée arrives in town for a film shoot. Soon, a second member of the theatre company is discovered dead and Colleen must put aside her feelings about her relationship with Bill and work with him to uncover who is murdering the thespians and why.
“In “Murder on the Hoof” the local theatre company is putting on a production about the wild Spanish mustangs of Corolla,” O’Sullivan said. “I dedicated the book to those who are working to protect the horses. I hope that if readers enjoy the book they will be inspired to contribute to the horses in some way.”
Publisher’s Weekly gave the book a glowing review: “The author makes good use of the Outer Banks setting, seamlessly weaving in a few of the area’s tourist attractions, as well as its protected wild horses, into the plot.”
The book will be available in large print from Center Point in June. All versions of the book, including hardcover and e-book, are available for pre-order. Learn more at http://www.kathrynosullivan.com/book/murder-on-the-hoof/.
