The Schlesinger Center Margaret W. & Joseph L. Fisher Art Gallery presents Heidi Christensen’s “A Pilgrimage of Images” from November 14 to December 14. A reception is planned for Saturday, November 15 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and a talk with the artist at 4:00 p.m.
“A Pilgrimage of Images” is a mixed media exhibition. Christensen paints in the classic tradition of layering glazes of oil color to create a running stream of images on an odd assortment of nontraditional surfaces in a way that blends together her experience of being an artist, wife, daughter and traveler.
“I hail from the nomadic corporate tribe of families that changed towns and states and schools every three years,” she said. “I’ve continued that pattern of relocation as an adult. Over time, particular moments still linger and diverse encounters with places, nature, works of art, intellectual pursuits and relationships provide a gestalt that sew these experiences into one continued environment.”
Christensen studied art at the University of Massachusetts, the University of Hartford and in Assisi, Italy. She holds a master’s degree in theological studies from the Virginia Theological Seminary.
The Fisher Art Gallery, located on the upper level of Rachel M. Schlesinger Concert Hall and Arts Center, is named for the late Margaret “Peggy” Fisher and her husband, Joseph Fisher. Gallery hours are Monday to Friday 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and during performances.
