On November 25, Medical Education Campus Nursing faculty Daria Amato and Victoria Blount and Manassas Biology Professor Gunjan Sharma took their classes to the 14th Community College Day at the National Institutes for Health (NIH) in Bethesda, Maryland. The NUR 221 clinical students and Honors BIO 101 students appreciated the opportunity.
The trip was filled with helpful information for students. They attended seminars and two group panel discussions where students discussed careers in science and future job prospects at NIH. They also met researchers who are working on various projects at the NIH campus.
The event was organized by the NIH Office of Intramural Training and Education to introduce community college students in STEM fields to research opportunities available to them through the NIH Community College Summer Enrichment Program. The event is designed to encourage students to acquire advanced degrees so they can fully participate in research and development.
