Dr. Mark Whitmire (AL) was selected to direct music for the Lighting of the Capitol Christmas Tree that took place December 5 in Richmond, Virginia. Following the tree lighting ceremony, Whitmire and his choir performed carols and holiday music as Governor Terry McAuliffe and his wife, Dorothy, greeted hundreds of guests at the annual holiday open house.

Designed by Thomas Jefferson, the Virginia Capitol was the first public building in American constructed in the Monumental Classical style. The executive mansion is oldest occupied governor’s mansion in the United States, having served as the home of Virginia governors and their families since 1813.
