“Who Loves You Baby?” presented by Biology Professor Lisa Williams is available on the NOVA TV Center Video On Demand server.
Williams’ presentation focuses on the long-term relationships humans have had with plants. Domestication of plants for agriculture is thought to have begun over 12,000 years ago. Williams discusses the four plants Michael Pollan mentioned in his book, “The Botany of Desire.” Williams describes other plants whose characteristics humans also find especially attractive; those that have or represent beauty, control, intoxication, nourishment and sweetness. Raising the question, “Who controls whom?” Williams also points out how some plans have affected our political process.
