Under the leadership of Dr. Ia Gomez, the Manassas Biotech Club is taking science to the next level in an effort to promote the club. Gomez, club advisor and Manassas assistant dean of science, engaged students in a molecular gastronomy research project.

The Biotech Club celebrated St. Patrick’s Day with a molecular gastronomy ice cream sale. The ice cream was topped with carefully designed mango juice spheres, matching NOVA’s colors.

“I am using molecular gastronomy to get STEM students engaged in investigating the chemical and physical transformations of food in the process of cooking. This is an incredibly powerful approach to introduce students to research and a great tool to increase student engagement outside the classroom,” Gomez said.
