On March 28, the Manassas Campus held a successful mathematics competition with a total of eight teams competing. Hagerstown Community College sent teams as did three NOVA campuses. Loudoun, Manassas and Woodbridge campuses each sent two teams to participate in the competition.
The competition consisted of two rounds with five problems in each round. The problems were based on college algebra, geometry, set theory, logic and probability/statistics.
At the end of the day, a Loudoun team took first place and teams from Manassas earned second and third places.
The Manassas Math Club would like to thank the Provost’s Office, Student Services, and the Science and Applied Technologies Division for their support.
Many volunteers worked together to make the event successful. Special thanks to the Manassas math faculty who organized the competition, including Assistant Dean Patricia Gary, Michael Inyang, Sami Nefissi, Francis Opoku, Shakil Shrestha and Matthew Westerhoff.
