On April 11, Manassas math faculty Shakil Shrestha and Matthew Westerhoff accompanied the Manassas math team to Cecil Community College in Maryland to compete in the Seventh Annual Mid-Atlantic Mathematics Regional Tournament.
“We are very proud of our math team. They competed very hard with equally deserving teams from other campus and won the tournament,” Shrestha said. “Our team beat 19 other teams, including many colleges from Maryland.”
The team members who participated in the competition are Ali Al Shanoon, Cheng Jin, Marcus Domingo and Huitong Pan.
“Through all the hard work, training and dedication our team persevered. The students out-performed themselves and deserved this victory. We are all very proud of them,” Westerhoff said.
The Manassas provost offered his congratulations. “Math is such an integral part of each student’s academic success and we are proud of our champions who showed the region just how phenomenal our Manassas students are. Job well done!” Roger Ramsammy said.
