On April 21, a group of NOVA culinary students attended the International Gourmet Foods Show at the Waterford Conference Center in Springfield, Virginia. Jennifer Fletcher, John Colwell and Dae Jin Jang accompanied Chef Mike Herbert to the event and saw firsthand an assortment of gourmet offerings from multiple vendors. They viewed and sampled cheeses, chocolates, pastas, sweets, beverages, meats and charcuteries.
Many of the vendors discussed their products, how they make them, the differences between their wares and how best to use them. Students learned how vendors and food distributors work together to provide their customers with the right product for the best value. They also saw how this will benefit them in their career as chefs and food service managers. Overall, it was a fun and educational experience for all involved.
