Faculty and staff from the Loudoun Campus and Reston Center participated in the 25th annual Taste of Reston festival sponsored by the Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce June 19 and 20. Taste of Reston is Northern Virginia’s largest outdoor food festival featuring delectable samplings from the region’s favorite eateries, live music, beer and wine gardens, family fun and games. More than 70,000 people attend the yearly festival.
NOVA staff volunteers provided prospective students and community members with information about programs and services. Loudoun staff members met many alumni and current students who stopped by the booth to say hello. The NOVA booth drew large crowds with complimentary NOVA tumblers, shopping bags and other promotional goodies. The summer weather was beautiful, and the staff enjoyed the opportunity to participate in this well-organized and well-attended community event.
The NOVA booth was staffed for a total of 24 hours (12 hours on each day). Dedicated volunteers from the Loudoun Campus and Reston Center included Off-Campus Sites Director Laura Siko, Campus Community Relations Coordinator Tatyana Schum, Campus Operations Director Sally Wrenn, Operations Assistant Trisann Casamiquela, Biology Lab Assistant Kyle Cervantes, Financial Aid Assistant Carolina Giron, Math faculty Karen Sandreczki and Michael Victorine, Communication Studies faculty Susan Idziak, Chemistry faculty Mitra Jahangeri, Computer Operations Technician Ali Hasnain and Natural and Applied Science Associate Dean Laura Jacyna.
Notably missing was Terry Hillerich, former motorcycle program manager, who participated enthusiastically in community outreach events for Loudoun Campus over the years. Sadly, Hillerich passed away in January 2015 and was remembered and missed.
