On October 13, for the eighth year in a row, Chef Mike Herbert from the Annandale Campus visited the Arlington Career Center to conduct a presentation about NOVA’s culinary program. Chefs Michael Natoli and Stephanie Vasquez of the Arlington Career Center Culinary Academy invited Herbert to speak to about 50 high school culinary students about how NOVA features experienced culinary instructors and hands-on cooking instruction in a modern, well-equipped kitchen.
Herbert showed a PowerPoint presentation which featured NOVA’s culinary arts program and an overview of the College. He also answered questions from students and emphasized the importance of academic advising and financial aid. He then prepared penne pasta with fresh herbs and vegetables for the students, queried the students on their culinary knowledge and gave out NOVA lunch bags to the students who answered correctly.
Many of the aspiring young chefs were not aware of all NOVA has to offer and were able to see the College in a whole new light. In addition to the Arlington Career Center, Herbert presents annually at the culinary academies at Annandale, Marshall, Edison and Chantilly High schools.
