On March 4, the Annandale Campus hosted a college-wide Career and Technical Education Showcase at the Ernst Forum. NOVA’s 2015-2016 Perkins Advisory Board funded the event. The active advisory board meets monthly and has industry representatives from the community and also representatives from each NOVA campus. Board member Cindy Klink, from the Manassas Enrollment and Administration Office, put a proposal together for the NOVA campuses to come together to highlight all of the Career and Technical programs in one location. Over 30 separate NOVA programs were represented at the event ranging from Cybersecurity and Geospatial Information Systems to Early Childhood Education and Nursing.
“I’ve worked at NOVA for many years and I am just now learning about some of the hands on programs we have at the various campuses. Many people in our service area don’t realize all of the great opportunities NOVA has to offer at the various campuses. This event brought everyone together under one roof and showed the attendees so many of the career pathways NOVA has to offer,” said Perkins Board Member Jenni Barlet, education support specialist in the Manassas Enrollment and Administration Office.
President Scott Ralls and Workforce Development Vice President Steve Partridge were the keynote speakers. They welcomed over 250 attendees to the event. Despite the snow day, participants showed up from several area school divisions and the event was also open to the public.
Klink, who served as the event coordinator, thanks all of the campus representatives that participated in the event. “We received so much positive feedback about this event from both the community and our campus representatives. Everyone is asking when we will be doing the event again. I predict this will definitely become an annual event at the College.”
