In celebration of Women’s History Month, Manassas Student Life hosted Meredith Atwood, founder of Swim Bike Mom, on March 24. She spoke on “Why Forward Progress Matters.”

Atwood’s message is about putting one foot in front of the other and pursuing your dreams – even when they seem impossible. She is a lawyer, wife, mother and four-time Ironman triathlete. She discussed how she does it all and sometimes does not. She also emphasized how keeping her dreams and purpose in focus is where the real magic happens.

During her keynote address, Atwood talked about three things she feels are important to focus on daily. The first was showing up. She said it is important to be present in the moment each day. Even if you are not feeling the activity at hand, give it at least 15 minutes and be present for that time. Her second bit of advice was to be brave and be thankful and to just keep moving forward. Finally, Atwood reminded everyone to be relentless. She said find your passion, focus on your dream and spend a little bit of each day pushing forward towards your dream.

On March 25, Atwood joined Jenni Barlet, Marcie Schreibman, Deidre Howard, Cindy Klink and other friends in a walk/run through the Battlefield putting her message of forward progress into motion.
