On May 5, a group of more than 20 people gathered to have cake and celebrate another milestone in Dr. Richard Semmler’s march to his goal of $1 million in donations to the College and the NVCC Educational Foundation (NVCCEF).
Each time, Semmler passes a $100,000 mark, the NVCCEF hosts a celebratory cake. This year President Scott Ralls got to witness what Semmler accomplished, as a dedicated NOVA faculty member over more than 25 years of contributing to the good of programs and students at NOVA.
NVCCEF Executive Director John Ruffino was the event emcee, and Interim Annandale Provost Charlotte Calobrisi and Ralls made remarks and thanked Semmler for his continued generosity.
Semmler has supported hundreds of scholarships at NOVA as well as his alma mater SUNY Plattsburgh and several other local, national and even international charities. Most recently, Semmler was presented with a Community Service Award from Central Union Mission for his 18 years of community service, where he volunteers almost every Monday afternoon.
On behalf of the students, faculty and staff at NOVA, NVCCEF wants to again thank Semmler for making a difference in so many lives, not only at NOVA but in the community during his 43 years as a member of NOVA’s faculty.
