The NOVA Honors Program was proud to host the third annual College-Wide Honors “Big Thing” at the Annandale Campus on August 26. This welcome back event was attended by over 150 people, including Honors students, faculty, staff and administrators. Dr. Paul Fitzgerald, Annandale Honors chair, and his Honors students arranged a day of fellowship and learning as new and current members of the Honors community attended panel sessions and workshops.
Dr. Pamela Hilbert, Annandale provost, gave the welcome address and recognized the hardworking Honors students at NOVA. Also in attendance were Dr. Sheri Robertson, associate vice president of academic services, who helped monitor a panel discussion, and NVCC Educational Foundation Executive Director John Ruffino.
During the event, attendees had a choice of joining several panel discussions led by several groups: Honors Program students, Honors faculty and Honor campus chairs, along with a discussion workshop led by Annandale’s Student Life and Counseling offices. The support for NOVA Honors continued with a light lunch and music, provided by Annandale’s Student Life.
A special thanks goes out to Tank McCarl, Kristy Balbuena and Pathway to the Baccalaureate program, Jennifer Nelson (Annandale Honors counselor), and the students and faculty who assisted in all the festivities, as well as those who served on the session panels.
The faculty presenters included Pirabalini Swaminathan (AN), Barbara Lash (MA), Paul Lea (AN), Geeta Jadhav (MA), Melissa Beaudoin (MA) and Jacinta Acquay (MA). Student panel members included India Mazzaro (MA), Dixy Ortiz Osorio (AN), Rene Fuentes (AN), Annaliess Trommatter (MA) and Kissa Syeda (WO).
