Sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, the Community College Initiative (CCI) Program provides participants from underserved areas and underrepresented groups with a one-year, non-degree academic program at a U.S. community college. The program is designed to build participants’ technical skills in applied fields, enhance their leadership capabilities and strengthen their English language proficiency. The program also provides opportunities for professional internships, service learning and cultural exchange through community engagement activities.
This year NOVA’s Annandale and Alexandria campuses have 32 program participants from 12 different countries including Yemen, Dominican Republic, Cote d’Ivoire, Brazil, South Africa, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Ghana, Pakistan, India, Turkey and Colombia.
The CCI Program has a new student-led blog initiative where posts from current program participants and alumni are featured weekly. In order to further engage the NOVA community and share the program participants’ experiences, please go online.
