The Annandale Campus Music Program awarded 16 Virginia B. Back Music Scholarships in fall 2016. In 2014, the late Virginia Bedell Back, a former NOVA student and chorus member, left $580,000 to the Annandale Music Program. The funds support the program in various ways, but the scholarships are the most substantial commemoration of Back’s generosity.

The awards pay for most college expenses per semester. The scholars were recognized during the concert of the NOVA Annandale Symphony Orchestra, titled “Fall Fantasia,” held at the Richard J. Ernst Community Cultural Center on the Annandale Campus on November 11. This concert of American music, which was introduced by Annandale Provost Pamela Hilbert, saluted veterans in the NOVA and Annandale communities and was enjoyed by 500 audience members.
