NOVA is pleased to welcome Dr. Vache Kalashyan, a visiting Fulbright Scholar from Armenia, who is being hosted by the Liberal Arts Division at the Alexandria Campus from November 2016 to March 2017.
During his stay, Kalashyan will be carrying out research in the D.C. metro area focused on ethics in civil service. His project aims to strengthen ethics in public administration through engagement of civil service reforms in Armenian public institutions. In addition he hopes to develop a curriculum on based on the comparative analysis of the United States (federal, state and local levels) and Armenian models for the use of codes of conduct and other ethics-strengthening mechanisms. The results of Kalashyan’s research will provide the foundation for the evolution of transparent public administration in Armenia.
Kalashyan is president of the Union of Armenian Government Employees as well as associate professor in the Public Administration Department at Yerevan State University. He also heads the University’s Public Servants Training Centre.
Although he will be primarily focused on his research, Kalashyan is available to give talks at any campus to discuss his experiences or other topics related to his home country. If you would like to arrange for him to present to your class or campus please contact him directly at firstname.lastname@example.org or Stacey Bustillos at email@example.com in the Office of International Students and Sponsored Programs.
