NOVA Workforce was highlighted on NBC4 on April 4. The feature was about the Alexandria Campus Career Fair and the benefits of NOVA’s jobs and internships database. The feature was a collaborative effort with Student Services at the Alexandria Campus. The NOVA Workforce Business Engagement Team showcased the database and the valuable way in which it serves students. There are over 6,000 employers using this database to recruit NOVA students and alumni for jobs.
The Alexandria Campus Job Fair event took place as a three-day event from April 3 to 6. Thirty-one employers participated and over 200 job seekers came out for the event. In the days preceding and following the fair, several career workshops took place to prepare job seekers for their job search. Among the workshop, topics were Resume Writing, Interviewing Skills, Dress for Success and Social Media Do’s and Don’ts.
The event was coordinated by Career and Transfer Counselors Mike Donnelly, Trevor Blair and Paul Chapman. Students came well prepared, resumes in hand and dressed for success, as they presented their elevator pitches to recruiters.
Employers in attendance included Arlington Employment Center, City of Alexandria Fire Department, Home Instead Senior Care, Wexler Consulting, UPS, Pentagon Federal Credit Union and Fairfax County Police.
