School Supply Drive at Annandale

At the beginning of the 2016-2017 academic year, the Counseling staff at the Annandale Campus decided to give back and volunteer within the local community. As a result, a partnership was developed with Annandale Terrace Elementary School, a Title 1 school located only minutes from campus. During the fall semester, eight counselors visited Annandale Terrace and conducted career exploration lessons in different kindergarten classes. Each lesson began with a story on careers and ended with a craft project.

After this event, counselors spoke with Annandale Terrace School Counselor Ann Miller and it was discovered the school was in need of supplies. As a result, the Counseling Center decided to spearhead a school supply drive.

Committee members Jen Nelson, Ethel DeLaney and Jessie Zahorian organized the drive and encouraged participation from Annandale’s Student Services departments. Staff members generously donated a wide array of supplies. At the end of April, several book bags filled with erasers, scissors, notebooks, pencils, tissues and more were dropped off so that the children could finish the academic year with the necessary resources.
