Three NOVA culinary students Nicholas Lee, Madelyn Towe and Brittiany Ross, accompanied by Chef Mike Herbert, visited the Mid-Atlantic Food, Beverage & Lodging Expo in Timonium, Maryland, on September 26. The show features a variety of food vendors and distributors, as well as a number of support services for the food and hospitality industries.
The students tasted a wide assortment of food and beverage samples and saw how the vendors prepared and displayed their wares. They gained insight to many of the other products and services needed in the hospitality field. From equipment manufacturers and sellers, printing services, insurance, accounting, pest control, uniforms and utilities to software, waste management, cleaning supplies, linens, tableware and trade associations, students learned about many aspects of such a complex endeavor. The students also spoke with vendors about their products and services and learned how they help to make a business successful.
All three students said they thoroughly enjoyed their visit and felt it enhanced their understanding of the hospitality business.
