Alaska Divorce Courts will now treat pets more like children!
A couple of weeks ago, I posted an article explaining how pets are considered property under the law.
Now, I am posting information about a new Alaska state statute that requires divorce courts to consider the animal’s well being and empowers judges to assign joint custody over pets. In a divorce who gets “visitation” rights with the family pet?
In a case of first impression an Illinois appellate court decided that courts have no authority to enter an order requiring that a soon-to-be-ex spouse have visitation rights with the family pet.
