Flora of Virginia Dedication Ceremony

On Wednesday, November 13, 2013, Faculty Emeritus Marion Lobstein spoke at the Manassas Campus Library and presented a copy of Flora of Virginia to Lynn Bowers, Director of Learning Technology Resources & IT.  Lobstein generously donated copies to all six NOVA campuses in honor of longtime Virginia Native Plant Society leader Nicky Staunton.

Foundation of the Flora of Virginia Project Inc. and Botanical Research Institute of Texas Press have collaborated to publish the Flora of Virginia, the first formal update to the state’s flora since 1762!  Flora of Virginia describes approximately 3,200 taxa in 200 families and features 1,400 captioned, scaled, and botanically accurate illustrations.

Students, faculty, staff, friends and members of the Prince William Wildflower Society attended and enjoyed a wonderful reception.  The ceremony was held in conjunction with the opening reception for an exhibition of art by Eric Garner, hosted by Barbara Lash.

The book is now available for check-out at all NOVA Libraries, it is a treasure in our collection!
