Which Science Sequence should I complete?

NAS 161-162 (Health Science I and II)

  • Prerequisite course is a Biology within 10 years
  • Microbiology is included within these two courses
  • Lower transferability

BIO 141-142 (Anatomy and Physiology) and 150 (Introductory Microbiology)

  • Complete Bio 141 prior to Bio 142 and Bio 150
  • Most Virginia Schools will accept this sequence (see transfer guides)

BIO 141-142 and 205 (General Microbiology)

  • Prerequisites to get into BIO 205
  • Complete Chemistry 111-112
  • 1 year of Biology
  • Most Virginia Schools will accept this sequence (see transfer guides)

Please note:

  • Sciences must be less than ten years old
  • All NOVA Courses Require you to qualify for ENG 111
  • When preparing to transfer, please refer to transfer agreements and the intended college for accepted transfer courses
  •  Not all Allied Health programs need Micro-Biology for their Program, please see application for specific requirements

Nursing Deadlines

The Nursing Deadline is fast approaching! The deadline is May 21st for the Traditional Program and the LPN to RN Program. Please make sure you read the application and you have met all of the requirements prior to sending in your application. All grades must be posted prior to applying to the program and transfer credits are to be posted on your NOVA transcripts. You will need to make sure that your high school transcripts are attached to your application as well as your Pre-Entrance Nursing Exam. All applications are to be mailed certified to student Services and postmarked by the deadline.

The MEC Exchange Workshops are information sessions to help students with the admission process into the Allied Health and Nursing Programs.
