TEAS Preparation-English  

This course is an intensive review to prepare students to take the English and Language Usage section of the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS). This will offer an opportunity to become familiar with the format of the exam and the instructor will support the student’s review of grammar, word meaning, punctuation, and sentence structure.  TEAS Preparation MATH: 

This course is an intensive review to prepare students to take the Math section of the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS). This will offer an opportunity to become familiar with the format of the exam and identify students’ math strengths and weaknesses. Students will explore approaches to the math questions and practice with sample test items and learn successful test taking strategies.

New Dental Assisting Program on the MEC Campus

Northern Virginia Community College will be offering a one year certificate program in Dental Assisting. This  program  will prepare students  with the knowledge  and skills  to perform  chairside  assisting  duties, clinical  supportive functions, business office procedures and radiographic  techniques in the dental  office. Students will receive hands-on training and have the opportunity to rotate through various dental offices in order  to  become  proficient  in  chairside  assisting  duties.    Upon  successful  completion  of  the  program, graduates will  be eligible  to  take  the  Dental  Assisting  National  Board  leading  to  the  credential  of  a “Certified Dental Assistant” (CDA).

    This is an “Accredited” day program that will start during the Fall 2013 semester and end after the P’ 6 weeks of Summer 2014 semester.  If graduates wish to pursue a career in Dental Hygiene, they will receive experience credit for their successful completion of the Dental Assisting program as  part of the admission process to the Dental Hygiene program.

 Prerequisites and  program requirements prior to admission: 

  •  High school diploma or GED
  •  Successful completion of:
  •  ENG Ill College Composition (3 Credits)
  • NAS 150 Human Biology with a grade of “B” or better (4 Credits)
  • SDV 101 (1 Credit)
  • BLS CPR from the American Heart Association, Criminal Background
  • Check, Drug Screening, and Proof of Immunization Records
