Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

Northern Virginia Community College will be closed for  Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day on Monday, January 16. This effects campus based courses, and offices, including the Testing Centers.  The college offices will reopen on Tuesday, January 17 at 8:00 am.

In observance of this day, we encourage to you consider making it a “Day On” instead of a day off. Join us for the 8th annual NOVA SERVES: MLK Day of Service. January 16th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Alexandria Campus. This year’s event will consist of assembling 35,000 food kits in partnership with the Stop Hunger Now organization and the Springfield Rotary Club.

 Bring canned goods and receive an official NOVA SERVES t-shirt.  Join the movement to end hunger in our lifetime.

Tuition Deadline

Heads up! If you registered for spring 2017 courses and haven’t submitted your tuition payment or have your financial aid in place, you must do so by 5pm Tuesday, December 13 to avoid being dropped from your courses! If you have questions about payment, visit NOVA’s payment information for details. You can also call the NOVA Online Hotline at 703-323-3347 for assistance.

Of course, there’s still plenty of time to register for spring semester courses if you haven’t done so already! NOVA Online’s first spring session begins on Monday, January 9 and for many courses, additional sections are offered starting January 23, 30, or later. Check the full list of courses here.

If you register for spring courses on or after Tuesday, December 13, your payment is due by 5 p.m. the following business day.

Make sure you check your course enrollment to make sure your schedule is set.

Prepare for Spring 2017 Registration

Thinking about an online course for Spring 2017 term? Spring registration is currently open. The online catalog is available in NOVAConnect now – search the online catalog to see what options you have for online courses. Registration closes at 11:59 pm the evening before the course start date, or when the course meets enrollment capacity.

NOVA Online offers courses that begin on January 9, 23, 30, February 20 and March 13! Review the steps below to help you plan ahead to enroll on-time!

Be cleared of any prerequisites (if needed)

If you are attempting to enroll in a course at NOVA for which you believe you have successfully completed (a grade of “C“ or higher) the required prerequisite(s) at another regionally accredited institution, you will need to follow the instructions on the Visiting and Transient Student webpage to submit your (unofficial) transcript for review. Get Ready to Start your courses

Each course has a course site in Blackboard. Students are given access to the course specific link on the first day the course is scheduled to begin. Once you have access to your course in Blackboard, make sure to thoroughly review the course syllabus and course calendar (Overview of Assignments) to map out a plan for the course. Make sure you are comfortable with the pace of the course.

Understand online learning through NOVA Online

Participate in the NOVA Online Orientation webinar to get off to a strong start. This one hour live online instructor session will focus on getting started in your courses, navigating your Blackboard course site, and identifying tips for success and student support services. The NOVA Online Orientation is highly recommended for students who are new to online learning. Register or Request a Recording Today!

Make sure you know your course start date and critical enrollment dates! Don’t miss your first assignment due date!

Take the Smarter Measure assessment to see how your personal learning styles will work with online courses.

Establish a Routine! All online courses, regardless of session length, are based on the full 16-week course material, so if you select 12, 8, or 4 week courses just know they will move at an accelerated pace.
