3rd Annual NOVA Serves: 2012 MLK Day of Service

NOVA Serves sponsored its third annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service on January 16.

Instead of taking the holiday off, more than 300 NOVA students, faculty and staff “took a day on” to volunteer in the community, providing 900 hours of service in one day.

Service projects included:

  • Operation School Supply-Volunteers donated school supplies and built school supply kits for children in Iraq, Afghanistan and other countries where U.S. troops are stationed. To date, more than 1,600 school supplies have been delivered to children around the globe.
  • Habitat for Humanity ReStore (Manassas, Chantilly and Alexandria)-Volunteers sorted donations of recycled building materials and household goods in preparation for sale at the three ReStore locations. The sale of these items fund Habitat for Humanity building projects.
  • Loudoun County Animal Shelter-Volunteers assisted with cleaning and organizing projects at the shelter. They also helped with animal adoption and animal care preparation activities.
