#UndocuGrads: Giancarla Rojas.

My name is Giancarla Rojas. I am from Bolivia. I graduated from Radford University with a B.S. in International Economics.

My resilience comes from my parents. They never gave up, not even in their worst moments. Many times they put aside their American dream so they could help me reach mine and for that I will be always be grateful to them.

There were various obstacles: fear after suing the state of Virginia so DACA students including myself could pay in-state tuition. Loneliness when I found myself being the only Hispanic and the only woman in my classes after I transferred from my community college. Frustration after being rejected from some internships and jobs because I am not a U.S. citizen. Uncertainty because I am the first one in my family to graduate and with that I carry a responsibility.

I envision myself making a difference in my community and Bolivia. I would like to better prepare and inform myself on my community issues and how to respond to them. I also want to run for office in the state of Virginia. Finally, I want to become Bolivia’s ambassador to improve the relationship between the countries I call home.
