Why did you decide to serve as a Peer Mentor in a Pathway SDV class? I’ve always had a passion for helping out other people and being a Peer Mentor meant that I could be able to work with my fellow Pathway students up close and be their guide in the SDV class as they transition into college life at NOVA.
What was most challenging for you in terms of trying to assist new students in their transition to college? I found it difficult to engage them in campus activities although I made weekly announcements and told them that I would be at those events so they wouldn’t have to go alone.
What was the most rewarding aspect of your Peer Mentor experience? I think that knowing that I was able to make a difference in at least one student’s life by being a small part in their success is definitely the most rewarding aspect of my Peer Mentor experience.
What is the most important piece of advice you could give to a new student? I would advise a new student to network wisely by trying to come out of their comfort zone a little bit by attending events or joining clubs which can help in making friends during the first semester and to talk to their classmates and get their numbers/emails just in case they missed class and need to copy notes.
What is one thing that most people don’t know about you? Most people don’t know that when I was younger, I learned how to speak English by watching American cartoons such as Powerpuff Girls, Johnny Bravo, and Scooby Doo.
What high school did you attend? Annandale High School
Why did you select to be in Pathway? I chose to be in Pathway because I didn’t have anyone to really guide me through the college process and Pathway helped me with that.
After changing my major 2 times, I’m planning on transferring to GMU for Health Administration for my undergrad.
