Hypothesis Testing is on Trial

Hypothesis Testing is the culmination of an introductory statistics class.  Yet practitioners are seriously questioning its use.  Science News called it “science’s dirtiest secret.” P-values are abused in order to get published in scientific journals.  The American Statistical Association issued a statement in 2016 with issues and advice.

Many published academic studies are under-powered and are useless for proving anything.  The samples are too small and the result may be from random noise or a reported study may be one of many with only the favorable result reported.
