New Dominion Chorale and Orchestra will present a program of classical sacred works appropriate for the Christmas season on Sunday, December 11, at 4 p.m. The concert, entitled “Gloria!” will take place at the Rachel M. Schlesinger Concert Hall and Arts Center on the Alexandria campus of Northern Virginia Community College, 4915 East Campus Drive, Alexandria, Virginia.
Featured works on the program will be Antonio Vivaldi’s “Gloria,” J.S. Bach’s “Magnificat” and portions of “Messe de Minuit pour Noël” by the 17th-century composer Marc-Antoine Charpentier. Charpentier’s Mass, composed to be performed on Christmas Eve, is based on several popular French carols.
The ensemble of 200 singers and Baroque orchestra, conducted by Mr. Beveridge, will be joined by six solo singers who are specialists in the performance of Baroque music: sopranos Nola Richardson and Rachel Evangeline Barham, mezzo-soprano Kristen Dubenion-Smith, tenors Allan Palacios Chan and Jason Rylander, and bass James Rogers. Joining the orchestra will be organist William Neil of the National Symphony Orchestra.
