New Dominion Chorale presents Opera and Operetta Favorites

New Dominion Chorale will conclude its 26th season with a program of Opera and Operetta Favorites on Sunday, April 23, at 4 p.m.

The concert will feature finalists and semifinalists of the 2016 Washington International Competition for Voice, and the renowned pianist Thomas Pandolfi providing the accompaniment to the 175-voice ensemble. The soloists are Maggie Finnegan (first place winner), Mathilda Edge (third place winner), both sopranos; mezzo-soprano Madelyn Wanner, tenor Patrick Cook, and baritone Efraín Solís. The program will be narrated by Leslie Luxemburg, director of the Friday Morning Music Club Foundation, which sponsors the Washington International Competition.

New Dominion Chorale to Present “Gloria!” at the Schlesinger Center

New Dominion Chorale and Orchestra will present a program of classical sacred works appropriate for the Christmas season on Sunday, December 11, at 4 p.m. The concert, entitled “Gloria!” will take place at the Rachel M. Schlesinger Concert Hall and Arts Center on the Alexandria campus of Northern Virginia Community College, 4915 East Campus Drive, Alexandria, Virginia.

Featured works on the program will be Antonio Vivaldi’s “Gloria,” J.S. Bach’s “Magnificat” and portions of “Messe de Minuit pour Noël” by the 17th-century composer Marc-Antoine Charpentier. Charpentier’s Mass, composed to be performed on Christmas Eve, is based on several popular French carols.

The ensemble of 200 singers and Baroque orchestra, conducted by Mr. Beveridge, will be joined by six solo singers who are specialists in the performance of Baroque music: sopranos Nola Richardson and Rachel Evangeline Barham, mezzo-soprano Kristen Dubenion-Smith, tenors Allan Palacios Chan and Jason Rylander, and bass James Rogers. Joining the orchestra will be organist William Neil of the National Symphony Orchestra.
