The GeoTech Center is now accepting applications for the 2011-2012 National Geospatial Technology Skills Competition. Only currently enrolled students (18 years or older) from two-year (lower division) community and technical college programs that offer courses, certificate or degree programs focused on geospatial technology in the U.S. are eligible to participate. The competition consists of three rounds:

  1. Online Objective Exam (based on the Dept. of Labor Geospatial Technology Competency Model GTCM) must be taken by March 1, 2012.

  2. GIS Project video (5 minute YouTube video of student’s project) by April 1, 2012.

  3. Professional presentation at the 2012 Esri International User’s Conference in San Diego, July 21-24 2012! (top 6 finalists receive a $2,000 stipend to attend)

For more information visit: http://www.geotechcenter.org/ .  The Competition tab  has the complete rules/description  and registration form .

Example videos from last year’s competitors are also posted on this link.  Now is a great time to incorporate the online exam based pm the Department of Labor’s Geospatial Technology Competency Model into your GIS course for Fall 2011. The GIS project video in Round 2 can capture students’ Spring 2012 GIS course projects.
