Penn State’s programming and database courses can help you stand out from the competition. In order to stay competitive, today’s GIS professional is expected to have a solid understanding of the “technical end of things.” This includes traditional skills in database administration, repetitive task automation and software customization, and newer skills related to cloud- and server-based technology. This webinar identifies key themes and trends in GIS software development and programming and looks at how Penn State’s suite of related courses can help you advance your technical GIS knowledge.

Penn State’s courses are designed to follow the “lifecycle” of a typical GIS project. From designing a geospatial database, to programming skills that help automate analytical and map-making tasks, to building a Web mapping tool that allows the public to access information, the five courses that are the focus of this webinar are designed to give analysts the tools they need to be effective in their jobs and to give managers the perspective to make strategic technical and hiring decisions.

The courses include: GIS programming and automation (Python), GIS application development (.NET), mashups (JavaScript), cloud and server GIS and spatial database management.  These courses can be accessed individually for professional development or as part of a certificate or degree program and are offered in compressed 10-week terms designed especially for working professionals

Join Penn State faculty Jim Detwiler, James O’Brien and Wes Stroh, and Craig Williams, a member of Esri’s software development team, to learn how you can be prepared for the next “big thing.”
