NHGIS (National Historic GIS) Updated

If you haven’t visited the
NHGIS website in a while, here’s what you missed in the last year:

Census statistics added:
2010 Summary File 1 Urban/Rural Update
2010 Summary File 2
2011 American Community Survey 1-, 3-, and 5-Year Summary Files
2012 American Community Survey 1-Year Summary File
(We aim to add new ACS summary files within 4 weeks of each Census release date.)
Time series updates:
Release 2: 18 tables including Total Households, Total Families, Urban/Rural Status, and others
Release 3: 9 tables covering Marital Status, Nativity, and Median Household Income
Release 4: 47 tables covering Income, Employment Status, Educational Attainment, Place of Birth, and Median Age
A new option to download time series in a “time varies by column” layout, which places data for different times in separate columns within one file

Boundary files added:
Shapefiles derived from the 2011 and 2012 TIGER/Line releasesShapefiles for 2000 census areas derived from 2010 TIGER/Line filesRealigned historical county and tract shapefiles that fit with 2008 TIGER/Line files

Website improvements:
Improved topic filtering,
a new “Popularity” column, and many other improvements to the interface and extract system
