On October 10, 2018 the NOVA chapter of SPS went to see First Man at Udvar Hazy. The theater had a 6 story screen with 4K laser projection. First Man follows the story of Niel Armstrong (played by Ryan Gosling) from 1961-1969. The movie was great in its balanced portrayal of Armstrong’s home life and career. First Man gives perspective on areas not covered in the well known history lesson. Social and political tension was high as the US raced to space against the Soviet Union. The movie made you feel what it was like to travel to space where disaster could strike at any moment.
