Hello! I am Mrs. Sheble and I am the Program Head for Teacher Education at NOVA. I teach both EDU 200 and SDV 101.  Prior to joining the faculty at Northern Virginia Community College in 2005, I was a kindergarten teacher for eighteen years with Fairfax County Public Schools. I also taught 4th grade for five years with Loudoun County, and I taught Preschool for one year at Fairfax United Methodist Preschool. During my teaching experience, I was a “Supervising Teacher” for many student teachers from James Madison University, George Mason University, and Marymount University. Additionally, I was a mentor for many beginning kindergarten teachers in Fairfax County.

I have a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education (Certified K-7) from George Mason University, with postgraduate work from the University of Virginia. I attended both the University of Mary Washington and George Mason University for my undergraduate degree.

Hello! I am Mrs. Ashley Wilkins. I am a full-time instructor of Teacher Education at Northern Virginia Community College.  I work closely with Karen Sheble, Program Head for Education, to help prepare students to enter into the profession of teaching.

I am a full-time faculty member at NVCC.  I graduated from Clemson University with a B.A. in early childhood education. I also completed a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction plus 30 additional hours in the areas of reading, ESOL, inquiry-based mathematics, and special education.   Before joining NVCC, I was a first-grade teacher in Prince William County. In addition, I was a lead mentor at my elementary school where we focused on supporting new teachers through coaching. I am passionate about preparing pre-service teachers for the field of education, and I also believe in the power of professional development for current teachers.

Currently, I teach at three campuses including Loudoun, Manassas, and Woodbridge.  The courses I teach include EDU 200: Foundation of Education, SDV 101: Orientation to Education, EDU 254: Basic Academic Skills for Exceptional Students, EDU 270: Introduction to Autism Spectrum Disorders, and EDU 280: Technology Standards for Teachers.  I am also available to advise any education students at the Alexandria, Manassas, or Woodbridge campuses.
