A friend and colleague, Jennifer Mickelberg, recently passed away. It’s a shock and tremendous loss. She was a conservation giant, and the animals the she loved and worked to protect need your help. Please go here for more information:
Zoology and Botany at NVCC
Did you know that NOVA has an Associate of Science Degree in Biology? Well, consider yourself lucky, because it does! If you are planning on transferring to George Mason University, it is most efficient if you take both Zoology and Botany in lieu of Biology 101 & 102. This is because when you transfer, you’ll need to satisfy a biodiversity requirement. By taking Zoology and Botany, you satisfy this requirement AND get 4 science elective credits.
Zoology is a class that focuses on the biology, classification, evolution, identification, and ecology of animals. We have two field trips: The Smithsonian Environmental Research Center and Huntley Meadows Park. Additionally, we head outside regularly to observe wildlife. During lab, we examine both the external and internal anatomy of animals. I hope you join me!
Hospitals Need Blood
Please consider donating blood. There is a national shortage and people are dying.

GMU Transfer Students (BS in Biology)
If you are thinking of transferring to GMU for biology, then you should take zoology, botany, biostatistics, chem 111 and 112, and cell bio at NOVA. This will minimize your loss of credits when you transfer.
Biology 199: Independent Study
FYI: If you are interested in doing undergraduate research at NOVA Alexandria, please note that I will not be taking on new independent study students for the 2016-2017 academic year. However, please email me if you are interested and I can direct you to other faculty members who may be willing to take you on as an independent study student.
