Streetcar 2 Subduction: Professor Callan Bentley
NOVA Annandale assistant professor of geology Callan Bentley was part of a team of geologists who recently published a new digital field guide to the geology of the San Francisco Bay region. Called “Streetcar 2 Subduction” in tribute to the fact the project was revising a classic book called “A Streetcar to Subduction and other plate tectonic trips by public transportation in San Francisco” (Clyde Wahrhaftig, 1984), the project was supported by the American Geophysical Union (AGU). At AGU’s Fall Meeting in San Francisco in December, the team premiered the new guide, built in coordination with Google, using brand new content-creation tools in Google Earth. The website garnered 10,000 hits that week. The team promoted the project through press interviews, a presentation at the Google booth, and two pre-meeting field trips to sites featured in the guide.
