Nominations for college standing committees due April 4
We are seeking members of the college’s standing committees. Nominate yourself to serve on any of these committees or nominate someone else, but please get their permission first before nominating others.
What do standing committees do? College standing committees have been created by college leaders and are run by members of the Administrative Council. In the spirit of shared governance, the College Senate is invited to nominate a portion of the membership for these committees.

Budget Advisory Committee (1-year term)
The College Budget Advisory Committee provides advice to the president on broad practices, policies and procedures involving the development and implementation of the college’s budget to support the realization of NOVA’s Vision, Mission and Strategic Plan Goals and confirm the college’s commitments to accountability and transparency. The committee reviews parameters and circumstances that may impact the college budget, including but not limited to enrollment, state appropriations, regulatory changes, etc.; reviews and analyzes various sources of NOVA revenue; studies the impact of trends and developments on revenue sources, expenses and budgetary investments; and provides broad recommendations on the general fund budget and auxiliary budgets.

Curriculum Committee (2-year term)
The Curriculum Committee is charged with reviewing all proposals for new or modified programs or courses, program discontinuances, credit for prior learning and academic policies. Recommendations are made to the chief academic officer who advances these—as appropriate—to the Administrative Council for consideration.

Assessment Committee (1-year term)
The NOVA Assessment Committee is a standing committee created to foster a culture of continuous improvement in both academic and administrative areas. It promotes strategic, regular and systematic institutional assessment to ensure that all programs and services meet the needs of NOVA students and support their success in completing their academic goals.

Organizational Development Committee (1-year term)
To strategize, coordinate and collaborate on opportunities for employee development collegewide and across employee groups. To review and make recommendations to leadership on new strategic development initiatives related to employee professional development and organizational development and culture. To provide recommendations related to resources allocated to employee development.

Student Services Advisory Committee (1-year term)
The Student Services Advisory Committee supports the work of the Division of Student Affairs. It plays an advisory role to the division vice president, providing input and recommendations related to the scope of student services addressed by the division. The focus of the committee is ensuring NOVA’s student services support the access, persistence, success and completion of our students.

Violence Prevention Committee (1-year term)
The Violence Prevention Committee educates and provides guidance to the college community on how to recognize and report threatening behaviors and to create policies and procedures for threat assessment in accordance with Virginia Code § 23.1-805.
