ASSISTANT PROFESSOR ARACELI BACHNER AWARDED CHANCELLOR’S FACULTY FELLOWSHIP AWARD

Araceli Bachner, Communication Studies faculty member from Alexandria Campus, was awarded the Chancellor’s Faculty Fellowship for the 2019-2020 academic year. The Chancellor’s Faculty Fellowship is awarded annually to no more than three outstanding professional educators in the VCCS. Faculty members are permitted up to a year off of the classroom to work on their doctorate.
On-campus, Araceli has been a host of NOVA Idol, promoted events related to diversity and culture, and lead discussions on CST 229- Intercultural Communication. Araceli is in her third year of the Doctorate in Education, Curriculum and Instruction program at Liberty University in which she received a scholarship for her military service.
This semester, Araceli is continuing to work on course work and preparing for the dissertation phase. Although Araceli does not have a dissertation topic quite yet, her topic will focus on multiculturalism and diversity instruction.
Araceli has noted that so far, this experience has reminded her what it is like to be a student! She is refreshing her time management and research skills and is more conscious of the cost of textbooks.
Aside from her doctorate work, Araceli is enjoying the year off from the classroom with her toddler son, Robert.
