The NOVA  Advising Training Program is framed by the NACADA Core Competencies and is sequenced into three levels, each building on the previous level.

Advising Basics Training is comprised of four 100-level courses, which are prerequisites for the Advising Intermediate Training, two 200-level courses plus at least one topical workshop. Advanced Advising Training will be offered when you have completed the Intermediate level. Each level of training covers conceptual (advising and relevant student development theories), informational (NOVA specifics), and relational (advising interactions and methods) information about advising. A Certificate of Completion is awarded after each level of training.

Topical Workshops (in-person and through ZOOM) are being offered in March and include four one-hour workshops conducted by NOVA experts:

NOVACares
Disability Support Services
Financial Stability and
Assessing Student Needs

Anyone is invited to attend topical workshops, completion of Advising Basics is not required for these. Watch your email inbox for more forthcoming information on topical workshops will follow. Please contact  advisorhelp@nvcc.edu if you have a suggestion.
