Alumna Becomes President of Accounting Organization
Natalia Donskaya, CPA, CFE, MBA is a 2016 graduate of NOVA’s Accounting Career Certificate Program, which gave her the accounting credits she needed to sit for the CPA exam. She currently serves as a Senior Consultant at Deloitte & Touche LLP. Jill Mitchell, Professor of Accounting at Annandale (AN) introduced Natalia to the Accounting Financial Women’s Alliance (AFWA) when she was a student in Professor Mitchell’s auditing course. She began attending the monthly meetings as a student to meet other professionals in the area. After taking on several leadership roles, she became President of the DC Chapter.
AFWA is a national organization primarily focused on providing resources, including continuing professional education and networking opportunities to accounting and finance professionals and students. The DC Chapter offers an annual $1,500 scholarship that will be awarded in May 2020. This year’s application deadline is March 31, 2020. (https://dcchapterafwa.org/scholarship)
Natalia encourages students to get involved in the DC Chapter just as she did. The upcoming February 18th meeting is student-focused to promote the accounting and finance profession and to help students be successful in business. Students will have the honor of meeting the Deloitte Managing Principal for the Greater Washington area, Tamika Tremaglio, who will share insights from her career. Most recently, Washingtonian recognized Tamika as one of the Top 150 Most Powerful Women in Washington, DC.
