Proposals to Improve Student Learning and / or Student Success

During the fall, faculty and staff submitted the following proposals for the QEP:

• Academic Coaching for First-Semester and Non-Traditional Learners
• Accessibility Model for Inclusion and Student Success
• Citizenship Across the Curriculum
• Early Alert
• Early, Often, and Everywhere (Library Instruction to Improve Critical Thinking)
• Gateway to Success: Improving Student Outcomes in Foundation Courses
• Information Literacy
• Learning Commons Cafés: Creating Collaborative & Comprehensive
• Academic Support Centers
• Library Reserve Textbook Acquisition Process
• NOVA Thrives (Student Advocacy Center)
• Serving the Under-Served: Achieving Access, Success, and Equity at NOVA
• Student Responsibility and Preparedness
• Student Success for Second Year + Students
• Writing across College, Career, and Community

A sub-committee of the SACSCOC Steering Committee reviewed the proposals and identified six themes for NOVA’s next QEP:

• Academic Support Services
• Access and Equity through Advocacy and Support
• College Success Strategies
• Global and Social Engagement
• Improving Writing Performance
• Information Literacy and Critical Thinking

A successful QEP must meet SACSCOC requirements and should incorporate best practices: is focused on student learning and/or student success, is based on data, incorporates feasible strategies or actions, is neither too broad nor too narrow, and closes the student achievement gap.
